Romania, at its first experience with space, satellite Goliat comes so straight in the prospect. Goliath project was initiated in 2005 by the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) with a budget of 1,500,000 RON (declared in 2005). ROSA dealt with management and coordination of the consortium of private companies that received contracts in this project.
It is a 10x10x10 cm nanosatelit 1kg and is based on american standard Cubesat, having on board a series of scientific experiments: determining the flow of meteors (SAMIS), measuring cosmic radiation doses to the terrestrial orbit (Dose-N) and capture images of Earth's surface using a camera of 3 mega pixels observation on board and installed with a ground resolution of approximately 21x28m.
Goliath will be released in an elliptical orbit ranging between 357 and 1447 km and inclination of 71 degrees and will be operated by two ground stations, Magurele, and Marisel near Cluj.
Romanian Project and eight other satellites in the same category were given the chance to be released for free in flight test rocket launched from the European Vega (some of them, coming from countries that are in pre-accession to the European Space Agency, as the case of Romania, and starting with the first national programs to show their interest in the space exploration).
