If your morning routine requires you to leave your home half an hour before you're bus or train arrives just so you can be sure to catch it, the Superbus may be exactly what you've been waiting for.
The bus, which has no fixed route, picks you up when you call and drives you to your destination at speeds of up to 155 mph.
The Superbus, which is still in the prototype phase, was designed by Wubbo Ockels, an astronaut from the Netherlands. TuDelft, the company behind the bus, states on their website that the bus was created to provide people with "carefree and comfortable travel," that is "customized according to your needs."
The Superbus is "50 feet long but only five and half feet high, making it aerodynamic like a fish but necessitating eight doors per side for all the 23 passengers," according to a report from dvice.
Operating from a central routing optimization system, the bus will be able to transport its passengers to their destination with the need for changeovers. In addition, its routes are customized based on the preferred starts and destinations of the passengers. To reach its true potential, TuDelft hopes that specialized lanes will be created for the Superbus, but said "since it also runs on standard roads, it can fit seamlessly into the existing infrastructure."
While it may seem excessive, with its ergonomic interior design and personal multimedia equipment for its passengers, the Superbus is taking the environment into consideration. Not only does it make it easier for people to take a form of public transportation, but the Superbus is an electric vehicle and its streamlined body makes for low energy consumption.
