2012, the Interstellar Dating Service

2012 has only just begun, and already we have a contender for the stupidest press release of the year. A dating site has declared that it's planning on launching the "world's first intergalactic dating app".

Before we get into the meat of the release, I'm a bit hesitant as to whether I should mention the name of the company or not.

On the one hand, I know that this is a publicity attempt, and I don't want to give them the satisfaction. On the other hand, it seems only right to name and shame. As a compromise, I'll let you decide. This link goes to their site, and this is the PR agency that sent us the release. It's up to you as to whether you want to hover over, or even click, those links.

It begins with a pun. I have no complaints about that.

"Singletons should be over the moon. A British company yesterday announced plans to launch the world's first intergalactic dating app."

The world's first what?

"The smart phone application will be accessible to 'alien life forms' on planets up to one light year (six trillion miles) from Earth."

Leaving aside the question of why alien life forms is in quotation marks, I'm trying to work out how the company has managed to limit the app's use to planets within a light year's radius of Earth. Has a ring of signal jammers been installed at that distance? Is this some form of intergalactic DRM?

"Extra-terrestrials will be able to download the app, for free, and make contact with humans by a form of 'space-age' email or futuristic type of text message."

The Space Age is widely considered to have begun with the launch of Sputnik in 1957. Given that arguably the first email system was MIT's CTSS MAIL, developed in 1965, it's hard to argue that email isn't "space-age" already. In which case, why bother mentioning it in the first place? What a "futuristic type" of text message is, is anyone's guess. Maybe it's in neon.

"A two-way GPS satellite -- armed with "Nasa-inspired" technology -- will transfer the communications between Earth and the far-flung corners of our galaxy, the Milky Way, almost instantly via radio waves."

This is my favourite paragraph of all -- there are so many moments of utter WTF. Let's pick through every single one. They've mysteriously picked out a GPS satellite, which is likely to be rather too busy with the GPS system to be sending love notes to aliens. I also love that the technology is "inspired" by Nasa. Just like the rockets I built from Lego when I was eight.

Then there's the "far flung corners of the galaxy" bit -- which clashes with the aforementioned galactic DRM clause. The Milky Way is about 100,000 light years across, and we're not in the centre, making the farthest flung corner around 75,000 light years away, give or take a few thousand light years. Again, though, there's nothing stopping the radio waves travelling any further, so it's not clear why they pick out the far-flung corners of the Milky Way as a limit here.

Finally, there's the claim that radio waves mean "almost instant" transmission. While it's true that the speed of light is pretty damn quick, it doesn't really seem fair to say it's nearly instant over distances like 75,000 light years. After all, it would take a radio wave 75,000 years to travel that distance. 75,000 years ago, humanity was only just starting to make its way out of Africa and into Asia. By the time your messages get to that cute alien on the Scutum Centaurus arm, humanity could well be extinct.

"Sending messages, and even romantic declarations, into space is nothing new. Professional alien hunters have been sending text messages into space in the hope of receiving a reply from extra-terrestrials for years."

Every message that you have ever sent over a wireless electromagnetic medium (mobile phone, SMS, email, or plain ol' radio or television) has gone into space. Most of them won't have made it much further than a few tens of light years away, because wireless communications haven't been with the mass market for that long, but that still reaches more than 50 other solar systems.

"But according to dating website [redacted], its new app will open up the possibility of communicating with alien life forms to 'normal, broadminded people' - rather than just the scientific community."

I particularly love the implication here that the scientific community aren't "normal, broadminded people". 

"In a statement the American firm, which has offices in London, admits the as yet un-named app is still in its 'conceptual infancy' and that it could take up to five years before it becomes available."

Leaving aside the question of why someone couldn't come up with a name for this thing, the big story here is that within five years, a dating site is not only going to make first contact with an alien species, but also work out how to flirt with them.

"It fails, however, to mention the two obvious pitfalls - that aliens will need a smart phone or computer to download the app, and that the journey to meet the little green man of our dreams could take up to 100 years."

The question of how fast we can go in space isn't an easy one, because there's not much air resistance in space, so you have to look at acceleration instead. The fastest outward-bound spacecraft yet sent, Voyager 1, has covered 1/600th of a light-year in 30 years and is currently moving at 1/18,000th the speed of light. At this rate, a journey to Proxima Centauri -- the nearest other solar system to us -- would take 72,000 years.

From that, you might be thinking that you won't meet your little green man unless he lives in our solar system. But you're forgetting about time dilation. The closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time appears to pass to you, so you won't age as quickly. If we can build a powerful-enough ship, and it doesn't crash into anything, then it's possible to get to anywhere in the galaxy within a human lifespan. You won't be able to come back for him to meet your parents, though -- if you returned to Earth, you'd find that thousands of years had elapsed.

"A spokesman said: 'The intergalactic dating application will be a first in many ways. It will give normal, broadminded people the opportunity to communicate with other life forms, and could open the doors to true universal dating.'

"In 2008, the social networking site Bebo arranged to have more than 500 images and text messages transmitted into deep space. The signal was aimed at a planet known as Gliese 581C, which was selected because scientists believe it is capable of supporting life. The messages sent included one from Radio One DJ Scott Mills."

The idea that an alien's first human contact might be with Scott Mills is a terrifying one.

"A spokesman for [redacted] said the new app would, 'theoretically', be available to life forms on planets even further away from Earth. Possible locations include Jupiter's moon Europa - which, according to a study, could support complex life - and Enceladus, one of Saturn's moons."

While it's true that the app would technically be available to aliens on planets throughout the Universe (that aforementioned DRM notwithstanding), it's depressing that this dating site reckons that Jupiter and Saturn's moons are further away from Earth than Gliese 581C.

There's also the conflation of "complex life" with "a creature you'd actually want to sleep with". While it's possible that the former lies under the ice of Europa or Enceladus, the prospect of the latter being down there is minute. At best, it would be a soggy experience.

"It is unclear who will fund the app -- a satellite alone costs tens of millions of pounds -- or whether the 'dream' will become a reality. But the spokesman confirmed it has hired a team of experts to begin the 'research and exploratory phase of the mission'."

Leaving aside the ethics of press releasing a "dream", I would like to know the name, qualifications and work history of every single member of the team of experts that have been hired to do this. And why the company didn't talk to any of them before writing this press release. And how they've managed to dispense of their sense of shame.

"He added: 'There are tens of thousands of single people who have scoured the Earth looking for love but have been unsuccessful in their quest. This is their chance to boldly go where no one has gone before -- to literally look to the stars for love.'"

All joking aside, I totally get why this dating site has written this catastrophe of a press release. It's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, and no product will ever be released. It's just a vehicle for -- they hope -- a few bits of press coverage.

I don't mind silly press releases, but spouting nonsense as fact just isn't on. Most of this stuff is covered in GCSE Physics, and it's definitely all available with a quick Google search. Either way, it sets the awful-press-release bar extremely high for the rest of the year. Here's hoping something arrives later in the year that can beat it.

Pole Shifting In 2012?

Some say the world will end in fire; some say ice. Lately, screenwriters and apocalypse enthusiasts have preferred natural cataclysms as their world-killers. As for when the end will arrive, those folks who claim to be in the know have an affinity for stamping 2012 as the Earth's sell-by date.

Why 2012? The answer traces back to true believers' interpretations (and reinterpretations) of Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce and various other ambiguous and nonscientific sources. Some armchair eschatologists have narrowed the expiration date further, to Dec. 21, 2012 -- when, they argue, the Mayan Long Count calendar ends its 5,125-year cycle. However, experts agree that the Mayans themselves did not believe that the world would end on this date, so feel free to buy green bananas on Dec. 19, 2012

he lack of scientific evidence for the coming apocalypse hasn't deterred believers from trotting out scientific theories to serve as evidence of imminent mass destruction. One of the most remarkable ideas they've chosen to flog is the pole shifthypothesis, in which the Earth's crust and mantle (or outermost layers) move as one piece. Pole shift might send the poles sliding toward the equator, swing North America poleward or produce any arrangement that might result from turning a globe in your hands.

People have been batting around some version of the pole shift hypothesis since at least the mid-19th century and, although many of the scientific questions it attempted to answer have since been addressed by plate tectonics, it's rooted solidly in physics. Plate tectonics and pole shifts interact and are governed by the same forces, but pole shifts, in which the outer shell of the world moves as one piece, produce very different results than plate tectonics, in which pieces of the Earth's crust bump, grind and slide -- opening seas, building mountain ranges and rearranging continents.

If a large pole shift could happen suddenly, the redistribution of land and water it caused would be nothing short of cataclysmic. In the short term, it would mean earthquakes, strange weather patterns, massive tsunamis capable of drowning parts of continents, and possibly gaps in the planet's magnetic field -- our shield against harmful cosmic rays. In the long term, the redistribution of land and water in the tropics, subtropics and poles would fundamentally alter ocean currents and the heat balance of the Earth, resulting in widespread climatological shifts. Ice caps might melt and reform elsewhere, or remain melted, driving sea levels down or up.

All of which returns us to the question: Could such a catastrophic shift occur, and if so, will it happen in 2012?

Pole shift refers to a geological phenomena in which the Earth's outermost layers move together as one piece. 

o understand polar shift (known to geologists as the True Polar Wander, or TPW, hypothesis), it helps to have a clear picture of how the Earth is put together.

The Earth isn't a solid ball of rock; it consists of concentric layers, each with its own heat and density characteristics. The outermost layer, the crust, is made up of rocky, interlocking pieces. These aluminum-silicate plates float like rafts atop a molten outer mantle, which surrounds a more fluid inner mantle. Farther in, a liquid nickel-iron outer core encompasses the Earth's solid, iron inner core. Put another way, the Earth consists of a solid shell surrounding a liquid interior, which encircles a solid center.

Most of the Earth's internal heat is stored in the mantle. There, temperature differentials cause convection -- the same process observed in a pot of boiling water, except it takes place over hundreds of kilometers and involves what Dr. Evil would call "liquid hot magma." Hotter magma rises toward the crust while cooler, denser materials -- such as subducted oceanic plates -- sink toward the core [source: Sager]. Convection drives tectonic processes and also redistributes the internal mass of the Earth.

Above the mantle, the crust tilts, rocks, sinks and rebounds in response to changes in pressure and load, such as occur after an ice age, when glacial ice returns to the sea as meltwater. The motion is like how a boat reacts to a person exiting or climbing aboard, only much slower.

When internal and/or surface mass distributions become uneven, TPW might occur, because the centrifugal force of the Earth's spin drives mass anomalies -- whether on the crust or in the mantle -- toward the equator. Some geologists argue that this has happened in the past. One possibility occurred about 800 million years ago; another, 610 - 510 million years ago, might have caused climate shifts that helped bring about the Cambrian explosion -- the relatively rapid appearance of most of the major groups of animals in the fossil record.

Some scientists believe that a polar shift is happening right now, at a rate of around nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters) per year [source: Tarduno]. This gradual "righting of the boat" is a physical response to the retreat of the Laurentide ice sheet at the end of the Pleistocene Epoch, 20,000-plus years ago [source: Maloof]. But don't pack the kids into John Cusack's limo just yet; this rate, although fast by plate tectonic standards, is still very, very slow. In fact, TPW takes 1 million to 100 million years to complete an adjustment -- the geological equivalent of watching fingernails grow -- and the current one will stop before making much progress.

 However you look at it, rapid polar shifts, like the kind portrayed in the movie "2012," simply don't happen.

Magnetic Shift

Polar shift is easily confused with pole reversal, in which the Earth's magnetic poles change places. Evidence for such reversals is abundant, locked in the iron oxides of ancient rocks, which aligned along the direction of magnetic north when they cooled. This alignment still occurs in some igneous rocks, such as when lava cools and crystallizes. Magnetic pole reversals occur irregularly (around every 300,000 years) and require thousands of years to complete. Some call the South Atlantic Anomaly -- a trough in the Earth's magnetic field near the coast of Brazil that enables cosmic rays and charged particles to delve lower than usual into the atmosphere -- a harbinger of an upcoming pole reversal, due perhaps as soon as 2012. Scientists think it unlikely; even if it happened, they say, the results would not be catastrophic.

The Photon Belt

               
                  This phenomenon was discovered in 1962. However, information was not released until much later and to only a small number of people. The Photon Belt and related radiation have much greater impact than we could imagine. From a scientific standpoint, it is the rotation of our solar system (together with all its planets) around the central galaxy Sun called Alcyone (in the constellation Pleiades).

                  In the early '80s, in the U.S. at a radio was made an ad, such as our solar system will "collide" with an electromagnetic cloud "over not many years." This nebula was then called the Photon Belt.

                 The entire universe is held together by vortices, including centripetal vortexes of energy, with their associated electromagnetic fields. This spiral of energy give rise to natural orbits in space and time: satellites around planets, planets around stars, solar systems around other vortices major centers and so on - forever.

                 It consists of many photonic bands, emanating from the galaxy center and associated with the spirals of the Milky Way. Try to imagine a few solar systems in a great revolution orbit around the star Alcyone, but wrap it with some imaginary picture of the toroid coils. This is the Photon Belt. 

               

              A complete rotation is achieved in 25,860 years. Our entire solar system, so the Earth and Moon together, must undergo twice during a complete rotation through the photon belt. Time distance between the two moments is of 10,500 years, during which darkness is overwhelming. After these 10,500 years following entry into the photon belt that lasts 2000 years and is a time of spiritual growth for the entire planetary system.

             

                If we consider, 2 x 10 500 + 2 x 2000 = 25,000 years.

              

                    

                    When will we ''collide''?

                 Many say it is difficult to predict, given that the belt is irregular oscillations.
Sources that have been channeled from the Pleiades say the solar system came into ring for a week in 1987, little more time next year, but that 1998 is already in full sun. They say that Earth will not come only in 2012.

            Is an electromagnetic phenomenon, the same photon, which is a light particle of electromagnetic radiation. Photon Belt is a vast region of space that radiates an intense electromagnetic radiation in both the visible spectrum, and in the invisible high frequency of light, even including X-ray spectrum. 

              The media has already warned that in certain regions of the planet, there will be a dangerous increase in radiation intensity entering through the hole in the ozone layer. With the entry of the solar system in the belt are expected spectacular temporary effects . Earth is around the Sun in its orbit, so it is or in front or behind the Sun, if we think in linear belt entry. Consequently, either the Sun or Earth will enter first. It is impossible to predict exactly, since the belt expands and contracts at a time.  

            If the Sun enters first into the Belt, they say that there will be 3 to 5 days of total darkness and all sources of electricity will fall. If Earht will be the first into the Belt, results in unimaginable intense light.

           

            Upon entry the Photon Belt we experience an electric shock immediately, about a tenth of a second, but not dangerous. Other sources say that around the Earth there will be an intense light, then a sudden compression and expansion of the atmosphere. If they are true, then the skies will be a long time full of bright light, that might lead to blindness on the unprotected. This light is expected to occur in the last three days.

            Another spectacular feature is the intense activity  effect of photons on matter . There will be a high excatation of atoms, causing fluorescence of all bodies. As major results, there will beno  night for 2,000 years. 

                   

                           The photon cloud has a high density of electrons and positrons (antielectrons).
In physics when a particle and antiparticle collide, both are annihilated, with a huge release of radiant energy - photons. The presence of  these free positrons will interfere with the terrestrail electricity consisted of electrons which will lead to a electric shock. However, the photon energy as a result of collisions between electrons and positrons will become a major source of clean and free energy. 

            Belt can be divided into three areas:
1. Entry zone zero, where we will stay 5-6 days and will include 72 hours of total darkness.
2. Entry in the main, with light 24 hours a day, continuously for 2,000 years.
3. Output of belt, by void area, another 5-6 days.

                        

                 According to Mayan prophecies, on December 22, 2012 we will definitely come in radiant field belt. In the next 10 years, the planet Earth and its neighbors will adjust their molecular structures. Thus, all molecules and atoms of all bodies known to be excatated - which will create a new constant type of light and : a non-hot light, light without temperature that will produce no shadows. If Earth enterns first, will produce a phenomenon similar to a planetary fire: the entire area will become brighter, yet not actual fire/combustion.

                   The next question is: "What's the link between the Photon Belt and spirituality?"  Both radiation itself and the belt are vehicles of necessary transformation and transmutation of an evolutionary cycle. As we move into the photon belt, we have to put ourselves in harmony with its vibrations, or risk to still remain in the third dimension. If we refuse to evolve, we should not complain that we remain as we are. Of course some of us learn harder than others ... 

                       The effects of the Photon Belt 

                    Here is the source of radiant energy of Christ, an energy of compassion and love. These  spiritual vehicles , if we use'em, we have a chance to overcome the limitations that we underwent. However, our choice is entirely yours. Free will shall prevail. 

• Multiple astronomical events (eclipses, transits, etc.) will cause a subtle training, unseen but effectively for the human beings on this planet.. Thus, issues of selfishness and materialism but actual human relationships will be exacerbated. The old patterns of denial of reality will prove ineffective and will be shattered. Lying and pretending are dying. Instead, love and compassion fill the entire planet.
• Several major events will take place on the planet, in terms of thinking and action in general. All are designed to destroy the old three-dimensional disharmonious energies, including those between you and me. If it is up to each, purification will be brutal or gradual. If you sincerely accept the new energies of love, or, conversely, if we are stubborn in the way of life today. 
• To be prepared in connection with the transformation of space-time that comes, our physical bodies must be compatible with the new world, such as entry into Christ-consciousness to be easy. 
• It is expected that DNA chain (which now has two components) to reach 12 by rearranging the components and activation of certain genes in the currently unused (called, of ignorance, ballast genes).
  
  Christ energy acts as a catalyst for these processes. Thus, many people become clairvoyant, telepath, healers, etc.. Just as Jesus predicted. Now more than ever, we must recognize the Divine Will and act almost always consistent with it. Our thoughts are very powerful energies to be directed very precisely controlled towards beneficial purposes, divin. 
  
  

  

                

  •  By entering Photon Belt, Earth rotation will reduce due to reduction of solar rotation, the temperature will drop and ice fields will stretch to 40 degrees in latitude in both hemispheres.
  • Will be inhabited only areas around the equator, even though it will not be as today because of changing axis poles. But the ice will not last long due to lack of rain and will soon begin constant radiation bombing that will melt the ice. Waters will rise 900 meters. When they withdraw, we will have a "new heaven and a new earth." Imminent disaster will mark the beginning of a new cycle, a cycle of Light, of Peace, Justice.  

    •      The Photon Belt is part of a group of energy from the seventh dimension, which has energy bands all around the Galactic Sun. One of these bands run from the constellation of Leo and Aquarius until the Platonic Year break in two galactic nights and two galactic days.

    •       Angels can use this energy from the 7th dimension, to activate during sleep time, chakras Light disciples and those who demand it and are prepared to receive.

      • These energies produce changes at subatomic level, in all of Creation.  This will make the transition into the 4th dimension, then in the 5th.  
      • Those who reject evolution are subjected to an implosion and will continue to occur in other systems of the third dimension, where they will be free to continue their conflict, polarization, fear and war, so will be able to clean their own energetic bodies of these negative programs. 

      
      

      But the greatest benefit for the Earth and Solar System will be entering as a member of the Galactic Confederation: we become citizens of the cosmos and for the first time, we know who we are and where we came from.
